My favorite unique photo spots in NH, MA, and ME

As a New England photographer and mom, I’m always on the lookout for cool and memorable places to photograph my kids. I love capturing their personalities against bold backdrops, seasonal color, and unique landmarks. Whether we're in the heart of Boston or exploring the mountains of New Hampshire, there's no shortage of magical spots to turn into a family adventure and a photo op. Here are some of my favorite places I’ve taken photos of my kids over the years:

A person stands beside a large pyramid-shaped sculpture made of colorful buoys and fishing floats on a wooden pier.

Buoy Christmas Tree - Wells Harbor, ME

This festive buoy tree near the coast is quirky, colorful, and SO Maine. It’s become one of our traditions to visit and snap a few photos. There's something about the mix of nautical charm and Christmas cheer that just feels perfectly New England.

Ornate Venetian window with climbing orange trumpet vines framing a Gothic-style balcony on a pink stone building.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum – Boston, MA

The hanging nasturtiums at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are only there for a short time in the spring. The museum’s courtyard is always stunning, but when those orange nasturtiums cascade from the balconies, it is beyond amazing. (You can only take photos for your personal use at this location).

A white dove perches on a window ledge above a street mural of a menacing dinosaur head on a brick wall.

Shark Mural – Portsmouth, NH

This bold mural has been a favorite spot since the kids were little. The colors are amazing, and it’s just such a fun, unexpected photo spot right in the heart of one of my favorite towns.

Two figures stand in an icy archway surrounded by towering frozen waterfalls at a winter ice castle attraction.

Ice Castles – Woodstock, NH

Stepping into the Ice Castles feels like entering a fairytale. The glowing blue tunnels and frozen sculptures make for an unforgettable experience and photos. If you can brave the cold, it’s 100% worth it.

A twirling figure in a white skirt and black sweater on a cobblestone street with blooming cherry blossoms above.

Beacon Hill – Boston, MA

Beacon Hill feels like stepping into a postcard. The gas lanterns, brick sidewalks, and ivy-covered brownstones are full of character and charm. Acorn Street in particular is iconic, but really, every corner of this neighborhood is picture-perfect. It’s a dreamy place to wander with a camera  - especially in the spring when the cherry trees blossoms!

These places are more than just pretty photo spots—they’re memories we've made together as a family. I love that photography lets me freeze these moments in time, surrounded by the color and character of New England. Do you have a favorite New England spot to explore with your family and you'd like to have your photo session there - reach out! I'm always open to exploring new and interesting photo spots.
